“Countering Violent Extremism in Southeast Asia” was the focus of a workshop held in Manila, March 13-16. Hosted by the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, the National Defense College of the Philippines, and the Anti-Terrorism Council of the Philippines, the four and a half day workshop brought together 61 security practitioners including military, police, and civilian government officials, and experts from international organizations, regional think tanks, and academia. One hundred one Fellows from 47 different locations graduated Aug. 10 from the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies’ Comprehensive Security Responses to Terrorism (CSRT) course in Honolulu. Of the 101 participants, 63% were from military organizations and law enforcement agencies, with others representing various government ministries, foreign affairs departments and intelligence services and academic institutions. Just over half of the course participants were from the Asia-Pacific region, with five continents represented. Continue reading

The Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS) is a U.S. Department of Defense institute that addresses regional and global security issues, inviting military and civilian representatives of the United States and Asia-Pacific nations to its comprehensive program of executive education and workshops, both in Hawaii and throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
