Emerging Leaders Forum – Anchorage
The Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, the Ted Stevens Center for Arctic Security Studies, and the Canadian Department of National Defense are partnering to host the Emerging Leaders Forum in Anchorage, Alaska. The theme of the event is “The Arctic: A Bridge Between the Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic.”
This workshop examines the Arctic’s role as a vital link between the Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic regions and delves into the complexities of Arctic issues, including governance, policy, and indigenous people. Our journey begins on Day 1 with understanding the Arctic and the impacts of climate change. Participants will travel to the Byron Glacier for a one-hour, moderate hike. On Day 2, we explore Artcic geopolitics, operations in an Arctic environment, and security impacts to indigenous people. On Day 3, we examine Euro-Atlantic issues, including NATO and the growing China-Russia collaboration. Participants will synthesize their learning by analyzing a problem set in small groups and leading a discussion on their findings.
Objectives:
-
Enhance participants' comprehension of the escalating strategic competition in the Arctic and its ramifications for the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific regions.
-
Empower participants to apply the knowledge, skills, and experiences gained from the event to broaden their organization’s understanding of the geopolitical implications of the Arctic.
-
Establish connections and facilitate peer networking among the next generation of Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic leaders.
