Philippine-Vietnam Yokohama Workshop Alumni Collaborate in a Webinar
The University of the Philippines’ (UP) Asian Center and the UP Political Science Department co-organized a webinar, “Vietnam’s Strategy: Power, Rivalry, China’s Diplomacy, and Economic Relations,” on August 1, 2024, via Zoom. Dr. Tina Clemente of the Asian Center and Dr. Aries Arugay, chair of UP’s Political Science Department co-organized the event that featured lectures from three Vietnamese professors whom they met and worked with at the Yokohama workshop entitled “Enhancing Resilience and Advancing the Philippines-Vietnam Partnership” on April 8-11, 2024. Drs. Do Thanh Hai (Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam), Vu Quy Son (Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences), and Ha Thi Hong Van (Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences), delivered lectures that examined Vietnam’s strategic approach as it navigates the rapidly changing geopolitical landscape of Southeast Asia and defends its sovereignty and legitimate interests.
This engagement is one of several collaborations that have transpired between the Philippine and Vietnamese participants in the Yokohama workshop in line with one of the workshop objectives to further strengthen relations and promote better understanding between the two countries. This workshop was co-organized by DKI APCSS and Japan’s Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS).
