Dr. James M. Minnich, Colonel U.S. Army retired and professor at DKI APCSS, has released a Security Nexus perspective paper titled “The Strength of Allyship: Cultivating Belonging for Team Success.” This paper originates from a speech delivered at the 10th Annual Women, Peace, and Security Symposium, held on May 2, 2024, at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.

Dr. Minnich’s speech, explores how allyship can advance gender inclusivity in the security sector. He highlights the need for a systemic shift from integration to true inclusion, emphasizing character, awareness, and action.

In “The Strength of Allyship: Cultivating Belonging for Team Success,” Dr. Minnich provides examples of pioneering women in the military and outlines steps to address systemic barriers, urging leaders to create environments where all service members can thrive. By focusing on the principles of “be, know, do,” he calls for a cultural shift that embraces true gender allyship, ensuring every service member can fully contribute their skills and expertise.
