    DKI APCSS Collaborates with the Thai Strategic Studies Center on Senior Course

    Faculty and senior leadership from the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies traveled to Thailand in July to participate in the Senior Security Studies Program hosted by the Royal Thai Armed Forces’ Strategic Studies Center of the National Defence Studies Institute.  The intensive one-week course for senior Thai security sector leaders, held in Bangsaen, Chonburi, emphasized the impact of change in the region as well as the capacity to manage change for both leaders and institutions.     On July 14, DKI APCSS professor Dr. Sungmin Cho joined a panel of experts to discuss North Korea’s most recent nuclear tests and the effects of the Russia-Ukraine war.  In his remarks Dr. Cho presented his analyses on (1) the Chinese view of North Korea’s military provocations in 2022, (2) the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war on the Korean Peninsula, and (3) the possibility of North Korea’s 7th nuclear test. The trip marks one of the Center’s first expeditions into the region since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS) is a U.S. Department of Defense institute that addresses regional and global security issues, inviting military and civilian representatives of the United States and Asia-Pacific nations to its comprehensive program of executive education and workshops, both in Hawaii and throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
