LCC participants with DIILS Director, Captain Robert Sanders.

DIILS graduated sixteen international participants from our Legal Aspects of Combating Corruption (LCC) seminar in December 2012. The course members hailed from Botswana, Egypt, Pakistan, South Sudan, Turkey, Tanzania, Zambia, Sri Lanka, Dominican Republic, Moldova, Mongolia, Republic of Macedonia, Nigeria and the United States.
The 3 week seminar focuses on building transparency and accountability in the defense sector. By contrasting U.S. and international best practices, it highlights ways for participants to improve their national mechanisms to prevent, detect, investigate and prosecute corrupt practices in accordance with international legal standards. LCC participants gained a range of perspectives by interacting with experts from government and non-government organizations, such as the World Bank, the Office of Government Ethics, and the legal office at Marine Corps Base Quantico, where they met military and civilian professionals who are leading the fight against corruption. The goal of the course is to enable participants to identify corruption practices that are prohibited by international law and to arm them with enough education in this subject so that they can lead their respective country in developing national anti-corruption agencies and procedures.
