DIILS ENGAGEMENT IN EL SALVADOR FOCUSES ON LEGAL ASPECTS OF COMBATING TERRORISM
DIILS conducted a seminar in San Salvador on the legal aspects of combating terrorism that emphasized land and maritime border security. In light of El Salvador's long Pacific coastline and its sparsely populated, mountainous borders with Honduras and Guatemala, the United States and El Salvador have a history of cooperation in combating narco-trafficking and narco-terrorism. This includes combined training and exercises to develop and implement best practices for securing borders and combating threats related to the illicit drug trade.
The 53 seminar participants included Salvadoran military personnel (Army, Navy and Air Force) and government security representatives from air and sea port authorities, civilian prosecutors, border security, and police.
