DIILS Completes 6th Peacekeeping for Decision Makers Course Summer 2006 - With 9 Countries
DIILS has successfully completed its 6th Peacekeeping for Decision Makers course held in Newport, Rhode Island (22 July - 4 August 2006). Thirteen participants from nine countries including Argentina, Bahamas, Czech Republic, Egypt, El Salvador, Georgia, Mongolia, Slovakia, and Thailand were in attendance.
Participants engaged in discussions and presentations of current operational interest in Peace Operations, International Law, UN Mandates and Processes, Peacekeeping Doctrine, Law of Armed Conflict, Rules of Engagement, Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief, Logistics Support, Nongovernmental Organization Coordination, Misconduct and Military Justice, Operational Planning, Environmental Law, Status of Forces Agreements, Refugee Law, and Mediation and Conflict Resolution presentations by the U.S. Institute for Peace.
Course participants also traveled to New York City, attending briefings from United Nations officials on current Peace Operations and met with their Country Missions within the UN.
In addition to classroom and seminar study, course participants enjoyed a visit to Boston including a walking tour of Harvard Law and the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.
