Online conference will explore illegal/unregulated fishing in Indo-Pacific region
HONOLULU (Sept. 2, 2021) -- Illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing has significant and far-reaching security, economic, and environmental implications for the Indo-Pacific. In the words of Adm. Karl Schultz, Commandant of the US Coast Guard, “Illegal fishing has replaced piracy as the leading global maritime security threat.”
At the 2021 Indo-Pacific Maritime Security Exchange (IMSE), some 40 expert speakers over two days will address the growing threat of IUU fishing in the Indo-Pacific region, along with solutions to combat it. Dive deep into this complex global challenge, which impacts human rights, economic security, and political stability. Explore ways to strengthen multinational maritime military capability, law enforcement on the high seas, diplomatic efforts, and capacity-building efforts.
The IMSE is designed to be a free and open exchange of perspectives, ideas, and professional assessments related to maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region with the enduring goal of building partnerships for security, stability, and economic prosperity.
