How can the United States assist other countries to conduct military operations in accordance with legal standards for use of force and humane treatment? DIILS plans a new three-week course that will provide military officers and government officials with a basic understanding of international humanitarian and human rights law and how it should be applied in the context of military operations, such as UN peacekeeping, or domestic counter-insurgency operations. Listed under MASL P176019, the new "Law of Armed Conflict and Human Rights" (LCHR) course will be offered from 11 to 29 April 2011 at Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island, and will include briefings by subject matter experts with relevant military experience.
