DIILS Director Capt. Robert A. Sanders travelled to Burma in October as a member of the first official U.S. military delegation to go there in over 20 years. During meetings with a deputy minister of defense and other Burmese representatives, US State and Defense Department representatives discussed potential security cooperation programs in the area of human rights and international humanitarian law. DIILS looks forward to building defense sector legal capacity to support recent reforms initiated by the Government of Burma to improve military compliance with human rights laws and the laws of armed conflict.
