Participants attending DIILS Military Law Development Program (MLDP II) resident course visited the Rhode Island State Crime Lab on the campus of the University of Rhode Island.  This field trip pertains to the criminal law component of the MLDP II course, a comprehensive overview of operational law and military justice.
The thirteen MLDP II participants, from Cambodia, Colombia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nigeria, Pakistan, South Sudan and Turkey, were briefed on forensic science and investigation techniques and toured the facility.  During the tour, lab staff discussed their equipment and techniques and the group observed processes that promote justice and the rule of law.
"This field studies trip provides an opportunity for our international military participants, who are military officers, legal advisors and criminal investigators in their own countries, to compare forensic science technologies and techniques in their own countries with those typically used in the United States." said William Aseltine, DIILS Resident Program Manager.
