DIILS recently completed a highly successful mobile program for members of the armed services of Uruguay. The DIILS seminar addressed concerns of the multiple legal issues involved conducting different types of military operations.

In cooperation with the Australian Army, the DIILS team included an Australian Army Attorney who had extensive experience in international military operations including the UN peace mission to East Timor. Uruguayan participants were able to consider and contrast three different perspectives on conducting military operations in different types of missions. Many Uruguayan participants were veterans of multiple UN peace operations. The combination of Uruguayan line officers, military attorneys and civilian attorneys and an international team from DIILS resulted in enhanced knowledge and understanding of the international law of military operations for the participants.
