DIILS CONDUCTS LEGAL ASPECTS OF COMBATING TERRORISM – PREPARATIONS FOR AFGHANISTAN, SEPTEMBER 2010
DIILS conducted a seminar in Czech Republic on the Legal Aspects of Rules of Engagement (ROE) and Rules for the Use of Force (RUF) relevant to military operations in Afghanistan with a focus on ISAF. The joint and combined DIILS team included a Czech officer instructor and four U.S. instructors with operational deployment experience in Afghanistan and/or Iraq. DIILS provided the participants with an understanding of legal and operational challenges they may encounter as they continue to assist in the fight against terrorism in Afghanistan. The DIILS team gave examples of practical and lawful means to effectively conduct military operations in Afghanistan including current scenarios, case studies, and hypothetical situations. Discussions were held on the challenges faced by Czech forces deployed in Afghanistan as well as challenges of working in irregular warfare operations.
