Professor Treddenick Retirement: A Reluctant Farewell
On 14 January 2015 Professor Jack Treddenick retired after 14 years at the Marshall Center. Dr. Treddenick had served his country of Canada for many more years, but spent the last 14 at the Marshall Center as a Professor of Defense Economics. Dr. Treddenick was a cornerstone of the Marshall Center, bringing years of academic experience and previous service in the Canadian Navy to its classrooms. He will be fondly remembered for his world-class teaching and mentoring of other faculty, but his deeply respected reputation as a true gentleman and friend is perhaps a better description for the memory he has left with faculty, staff and participants.
At his retirement ceremony Dr. Treddenick was presented with several awards from the Supreme Allied Commander, Europe; Director, Defense Security Cooperation Agency and the Director of the Marshall Center. Mrs. Treddenick was also honored with a Certificate of Appreciation. Professor Treddenick was recognized for his service as:
- Executive Director, PfP Consortium
- Course Director, PASS
- Director, Security Stability Transition and Reconstruction course (SSTaR)
- Designer and Director, Security Sector Capacity Building course (SSCB)
- Member, “Connections” Editorial Board
- Marshall Center Canadian Chair, 2006-2008
- Teaching/Lecturing in 37 conferences held in 27 countries
Professor Treddenick will be greatly missed. We wish him our very best as he transitions back to Canada with his wife, Marilyn.
Fair Winds and Following Seas, Jack.
