Alumni Play Key Roles in Regional Energy Security Conference in Warsaw
The Marshall Center and the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMFUS) teamed up for a third year to stage a major conference in Poland on 13 May 2014 to address “Energy and Euroatlantic Relations: Shifting Security Dynamics”. Over 90 people attended the event, which was opened by US Ambassador to Poland Mr. Stephen Mull, German Ambassador Rolf Nikel and co-moderated by GMFUS Warsaw Office Director Mr. Michal Baranowski and the Marshall Center’s own Dr. Matt Rhodes. Mr. Michael Ruehle, Head of NATO’s Energy Security Section, gave a keynote address highlighting Europe’s immediate and long-term energy challenges. In addition to the many Polish alumni in attendance, speakers and moderators included Prof. Ruta Buneviciute (Marshall Center alumnus and Lithuanian chair on the faculty), Ukrainian alumnus Mr. Petro Burkovskiy, former Marshall Center professor Dr. Igor Zevelev (Russian Federation) and another half-dozen energy experts from throughout the region. Links to a final conference report will be posted in June.
