The aim of the Marshall Center’s Transatlantic Talk audio podcast is to offer a genuine dialogue on current issues in transatlantic relations and their broader political and societal context. It features the Marshall Center’s Deputy Dean Ralf Roloff and Areas Studies Chair Matthew Rhodes. 

In Episode 1, “Outlook for ‘A New Transatlantic Agenda,’” Ralf and Matt discuss the background, dynamics, and prospects for the series of recent EU, German government, and German think tank proposals for intensified cooperation with the new Biden administration in the United States.

In Episode 2, “Revitalizing Democracy,’” Ralf and Matt discuss the background and significance of the central focus on democracy in the Biden administration’s new Interim National Security Strategic Guidance and related recent statements by German leaders.

In Episode 3, “Biden in Europe,” Ralf and Matt discuss the aims, stakes, and potential pitfalls surrounding President Joe Biden’s June travel to Europe for summit meetings with G-7, NATO, EU, and Russian leaders.

In Episode 4, “Germany Votes,” Ralf and Matt discuss the international legacy of Chancellor Angela Merkel and foreign policy implications of the September 26 Bundestag election.

In Episode 5, “Strategic Competition,” Ralf and Matt take a year-end look at alternative understandings of the term and its evolving manifestations in the military and political realms in particular in relations with China and Russia over the course of 2021.

In Episode 6, “Russia and Ukraine,” Ralf and Matt discuss the threat of new, large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine and the implications for the future of security in Europe.
