Turkish Alumni discuss 'Aspects of Radicalization' at recent networking event

On May 7 twenty-five participants gathered in Ankara to hear CISS professors Dr. Jay LeBeau and Dr. Eric Young along with non-resident program director COL Larry Kinde discuss counter-terrorism issues and various aspects of radicalization.  In attendance were 20 alumni as well guests to include U.S. Embassy staff.

Points of discussion included countering violent extremism, US coutner-terrorism strategy, the future of Al-Qaeda and impressions from the recent Boston bombing.  Discussions included how to counter terrorist ideology, finding a universal definition of terrorism, the impact on terrorism activities of US withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan and the role of civil society in terrorism prevention.

This event was held in counjunction with a GCMC bi-lateral outreach workshop with the Turkish National Police Academy entitled 'Comparative Counterterrorism Narratives:  Examples from Different Regions.'
