What do all the text editor buttons/icons mean?
The following buttons/icons appear from left to right in the text editor toolbar.
Bold - bolds the selected text. Using this on text that is already bold will remove the bold formatting.
Italics - italicizes the selected text. Using this on text that is already italicized will remove the italicization.
Insert/Remove Bulleted List - a toggle that allows you to insert or remove a bulleted list with one click. Bulleted lists can sometimes be tricky, so double-check that the results look as intended.
Insert/Remove Numbered List - a toggle that allows you to insert or remove a numbered list with one click. Like bulleted lists, numbered lists can be difficult to format correctly, so double-check that the results look as intended.
Move Left - when clicked, moves the selected text to the left.
Move Right - when clicked, moves the selected text to the right.
Link - opens a popup where you can add a web link or an email address link. Be sure to highlight the exact text which should become a link, then click this and choose which of the three types you are adding:
- URL (for website addresses)
- Link to anchor in the text (if you have already created an anchor to link to within the document)
- Email (for email addresses).
Each type of link has other optional parameters.
Unlink - removes a link you added previously. Be sure to highlight the entire link before unlinking it.
Superscript - formats selected text in superscript, meaning it is smaller than the normal line of type and is set slightly above it, like this.
Subscript - formats selected text in subscript, meaning it is smaller than the normal line of type and is set slightly below it, like this.
Horizontal Line - adds a horizontal line that spans the width of the text, like this:
Paste from Word - allows user to paste formatted text so it keeps prior formatting.
Remove Format - removes all formatting from selected text (this will not remove hyperlinks, but will remove bold, italics, indents, alignment, etc).
Media Browser - opens a popup where you can upload files, embed web-based video resources, or select from files you have previously uploaded (in My Files); these files will appear inline with your text.
