On Tuesday, February 27, 2024, the Near East South Asia (NESA) Center for Strategic Studies welcomed 18 students from the Defense Security Cooperation University’s (DSCU) seven-week Security Cooperation Organization (SCO) Operations Course. Academic Dean Roger Kangas, supported by Assistant Professor Jeffrey Payne, Dr. Michael Sharnoff, Professor Richard Wiersema, and Associate Dean Charles Marks, briefed the SCO personnel at Fort Lesley J. McNair in Washington, D.C., who’s assignments are in the Middle East, Europe, and the Pacific regions. The Africa Center and the Perry Center also hosted SCO personnel for their region.

The SCO Operations course, which takes place in Ohio, Indiana, and the National Capital Region, prepares both military and civilian SCO personnel to represent the Department of Defense to allies and partners on Security Cooperation and Assistance programs in complex, interagency, and international environments. Regional Centers are uniquely poised to support SCO personnel executing Security Cooperation activities with Allies and partners in support of the National Defense Strategy.
