Discussing Freedom of Navigation
DKI APCSS' Commander Jonathan Odom discussed the legal case for Freedom of Navigation in the South China Sea during a recent visit to Australia as part of the US Embassy's speakers program. During his trip, he spoke in three Australian cities about the recent International Tribunal on the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) ruling.
These talks included faculty and students at Monash University on Melbourne as well as the University of Sydney's Centre for International Security Studies and Sydney Centre for International Law. In Canberra, Odom spoke with a number of senior military officers and senior government officials. He also held several academic roundtables with the Australian Defence Force Academy and the National Security College of the Australian National University which included diplomats from other countries including the Philippines and Vietnam.
