LTGEN Benjie Rasgo Madrigal, Jr is a proud DIILS Alumnus of the 2003 Conducting Military and Peacekeeping Operations in accordance with the Rule of Law resident course, in Newport, RI. He has assumed command of the Eastern Mindanao Command in Southern Philippines in November 2017. As head of all AFP units operating in the Eastern part of Mindanao, he is in charge of conducting joint operations against all security threats in order to establish a physically and psychologically secure environment, conducive to sustainable development, progress and prosperity. Prior to his tour in Eastern Mindanao, he was assigned as the Commander of Southern Luzon Command in northern Philippines in August 2017, where he earned his third star.
LTGEN Madrigal credits the DIILS resident course with providing him a solid foundational knowledge in the areas of conflict resolution, peace operations, and stakeholder support operations – all of which are important skills for his current position. Moreover, he credits the DIILS course with providing him with a good understanding of the application of International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights, and the Rule of Law, which he shares and emphasizes with all his troops.
