DIILS MOURNS THE PASSING OF LONG TIME NEW YORK CITY TOUR GUIDE
Lee Gelber, the Dean of NYC tour guides, passed away recently on 18 January 2020. Lee was a mainstay for DIILS New York City historical tours as part of the resident courses Field Studies Program (FSP). Lee has been guiding DIILS tours for over 15 years during which time he graciously imparted his vast and endless knowledge of NYC to over 1200 students. There was never a question Lee could not answer, deliver a humorous anecdote or impart an obscure fact regarding a specific site. Lee was generous with his expertise and through his passion for New York City instilled a sense of adventure in all he met. A few of student accolades, "He has no match"; "A great historian of New York, a great story teller and memorable tour guide" and very simply, "Mr. Lee is the best."
Lee Gelber's passing is a great loss to the City of New York and all who knew him.
DIILS extends condolences to Lee's family.
