Announcing the release of Season 2, Episode 2, of our video series, “Dialogues with the Perry Center,” hosted by Perry Center Professor Luis Bitencourt. In this Spanish-language episode, Dr. Bitencourt discusses cybersecurity with Professor Boris Saavedra. Dr. Saavedra explores the various dimensions of cyber threats and recommends measures to confront threats without limiting cyber benefits. He also highlights Perry Center programming that aims to bolster cybersecurity in the Western Hemisphere. Continue reading

On July 8, Perry Center Director Dr. Paul Angelo welcomed 60 participants from 19 countries for the resident phase of two courses: “Strategic Implications of Human Rights and Rule of Law” and “Cyber Policy Development and Artificial Intelligence Applications for Defense.” Dr. Angelo was joined by Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Western Hemisphere Ana Janaina Nelson, who provided opening remarks. In closing out Caribbean American Heritage Month, we were honored to host Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett, representing the US Virgin Islands at-large, for a conversation about US-Caribbean relations on June 27, 2024. Congresswoman Plaskett (US-VI) is the first member of a United States territory to be named a Ranking Member of a Select Committee, the first to be a member of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and one of the founders of the Congressional Caucus on Black Innovation. The Ministry of Defense of Ecuador and the Perry Center held an Ecuador-United States Executive Seminar on “How to Strengthen National and Regional Security” from June 17-19 in Quito, Ecuador. The seminar addressed US and Ecuadorian national policies, strategies, and processes and the importance of national and regional security and defense as the axis of national development. This event was opened by Perry Center Director Dr. Paul Angelo and Colonel (ret.) Luis Auz Beltrán, Undersecretary of Cabinet of the Ministry of National Defense. Continue reading
