From Perry Center | by Raul Neine | 24 May 2024

On April 8, 2024, Professor Celina Realuyo spoke on “The Globalization and Digitalization of Illicit Networks in the Americas” at the Fourth Meeting of National Authorities on Transnational Organized Crime (RANDOT-IV), which will be held on 8th and 9th April 2024, at OAS headquarters in Washington, DC, under the chairmanship of the United States, led by Ambassador Frank Mora and vice-chairmanship of Argentina, with Minister of Security Patricia Bullrich participating. The Meetings of National Authorities on Transnational Organized Crime are held biennially and serve as the principal hemispheric forum for National Authorities from OAS Member States to discuss efforts aimed at implementing their commitments under the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and its supplementary Protocols. Professor Realuyo was part of a panel discussion titled “Emerging Modalities of Organized Crime and Effective Tools to Address Them” and highlighted how the cyber domain is empowering criminal networks involved in drug, human, arms and contraband trafficking and illicit financing. At the event, our Perry Center alumnus, Gaston Schulmeister, Director of OAS Department against Transnational Organized Crime and Ricardo Ferrer, Argentine Ministry of Security Director of Criminal Intelligence were in attendance.
