Perry Center’s Regional Insight
From Perry Center | by Raul Neine | 22 Nov 2016

The Perry Center’s most recent Regional Insight is a transcript of an interview conducted with U.S. Special Envoy to the Colombia Peace Accords, Mr. Bernie Aronson.

Aronson was selected to his position by President Obama on February 20, 2015. Since then, he has made over two dozen trips to Havana, Cuba to facilitate dialogue between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). He has extensive experience in conflict resolution and peace negotiations having served as the Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs from 1989 until 1993. During that time, he helped negotiate the end of the civil war in El Salvador between rebel groups and the Salvadoran government.

The transcript comes from an interview Perry Center Professor Pat Paterson conducted with Mr. Aronson earlier this year, part of a series of Hemispheric Forums. Anastasia Sendoun, a Research Assistant at the Perry Center and a student in Government and Spanish at Georgetown University in Washington DC, helped transcribe the interview and write the report. Perry Center graphic designer Vivian Edwards formatted and typeset the Regional Insight.

The Regional Insight can be downloaded here.
