ADL WG meeting in Vilnius, April 2017

The PfPC Advanced Distributed Learning & Technical Standards (ADL) Working Group was formally established in 1999.

The PfPC ADL Working Group’s mission is to strengthen e-learning-based defense and security policy education through international and institutional collaboration. Its core activities are to discuss and evaluate new education and training technologies which can support nation’s military and academic institutions.

The activities include the creation and sharing of interactive, widely needed e-learning courseware; providing access to interoperable, open-source e-learning technologies; and the exchange and dissemination of ADL-based best practices.

The PfPC ADL working group holds two meetings a year hosted by member nations, where the latest developments in ADL and educational technology are discussed, tasks set by the PfPC leadership are reviewed and worked on, and support to new nations seeking to improve or develop new educational and training technology capabilities is planned.

Since the creation of the PfPC ADL Working group over six nations have used the skills and support of this group to create their own national ADL online systems with supporting online courses covering a wide range of topics.

Through its Co-operative Development Teams, the working group supports organizations that wish to convert selected existing courses into web-based interactive courseware for inclusion in the PfP-LMS. The working group desires to co-operate with organizations from all the Partner countries and, where possible, with private industry.

The PfPC working group also maintains an open source, web-based environment which links Consortium member organizations together in a collaborative network that facilitates the development of ADL courses and methods. The working group has developed an open source Learning Management System (PfP-LMS) for use by the Consortium. This LMS is designed to meet the requirements of Partner nations and strives for compliance with emerging international standards such the Sharable Courseware Objects Reference Model (SCORM).
