Disunity in Global Jihad. WINTER 2017

Disunity in Global Jihad

The Winter 2017 issue of Connections is dedicated to the controversies between al-Qaeda (AQ) and Islamic State (IS) and their historical, ideological or geographical affiliates. The issue has been prepared by the Danish Institute for International Studies, with Dr. Manni Crone and Dr. Flemming Splidsboel Hansen serving as Guest Editors.

The papers in this special issue cover three main topics: (1) Historical, ideological and conceptual foundations of existing controversies; (2) Interactions between IS and AQ in Syria, Iraq and other key geographic areas - Afghanistan/Pakistan, Yemen, North Africa and Sahel, Caucasus and Central Aisa, and (3) Varying perspectives on foreign fighters and women's roles in Jihad.
