This article revisits the interdependence debate in international relations theory. One of the aims of this paper is to analyze under what conditions international cooperation and interdependence can emerge. The author criticizes the work of Dougherty, Pfaltzgraff, and Barbieri, and argues that theories of international cooperation and integration are understood as manifestations of interdependence. He also stresses that realism does not clash with the notion of interdependence, but if combined with several liberalist notions, can well account for international collaboration and interdependence processes.
