This article examines the situation in Transnistria, the breakaway republic on the border between Moldova and Ukraine. It introduces the cause of the conflict, reviews attempts to find a negotiated solution and examines the proposals of the Russian envoy Kozak. Subsequently, it looks at the positions of Moldova, Russia, Ukraine and other parties involved in the conflict. The author argues that the developments offer little hope for a solution in Transnistria.
