DIILS PARTNERS WITH SLOVENIA TO PREP FORCES FOR DEPLOYMENT TO AFGHANISTAN
DIILS adjunct engages in international humanitarian law discussion with
Slovenian military.
The Defense Institute of International Legal Studies (DIILS) has built a relationship with Slovenia through a series of Afghanistan Pre-Deployment Legal Engagement Seminars, delivering three programs to each of the three previous Slovenian contingents deploying to Afghanistan. The most recent DIILS team was unique in that all three officers were deployed to Afghanistan from 2010-2011. Each team member brought a unique perspective to the seminar which led to a wide ranging discussion of legal issues facing the International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF)."
Members of the Slovenian Ministry of Justice attended the seminar and shared their perspective on Rules of Engagement and how Slovenian domestic law would be applied in certain cases. This type of collaborative learning process benefits both parties and leads to greater international understanding.
