IN JORDAN, DIILS TEAM DISCUSSES BORDER SECURITY, REFUGEE LAW
A DIILS team recently journeyed to Amman, Jordan for an information exchange with the Jordanian Armed Forces. The engagement addressed legal issues surrounding the maintenance of secure borders and the proper handling of international refugees, in accordance with international refugee law and the law of armed conflict.
Jordan has been experiencing many challenges in their efforts to host large populations of refugees from the ongoing conflict in Syria. The 25 participants, ranging in rank from lieutenant to colonel, represented various components of the Jordanian Armed Forces that are actively involved in border security. Topics included the application of international refugee law, human rights law, international law, and the impact of regional treaties on border security and refugee populations.
