Georgia alumnus from the PASS 2013 course, Mr. Giorgi Gobechia, joined the Alumni MC Scholars Program to perform academic research at the Marshall Center on the topic " Energy Security in the Eastern partnership: Today and Tomorrow " from 24 August to 25 September 2015. Academic Faculty support was provided by Dr. Gregory Gleason.

Mr. Gobechia advanced his work on energy security in Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus through examination of national energy policies throughout the region. Emphasis was on the development of energy production within those countries, and less reliance on import. Mr. Gobechia proposed that the export of energy could be based on non-fossil fuels, including nuclear (Armenia) and hydroelectric (Georgia). He concluded that a common energy strategy should be based on political unity to build a cheaper, safer and more sustainable energy production and distribution system.
