On 12 April 2024, South Asia Journal published NESA Center alum Asanga Abeyagoonasekera's latest Op-Ed, "Undemocratic Rule of Modi’s India is a Security Threat to South Asia."

"The undemocratic rule is not limited to Indian geography but has spilt over to India’s immediate neighbouring countries. When the centre is weak, the periphery becomes weaker. Such is the case in South Asia when looking at India, the larger civilisation-state with the world’s largest demography and its immediate periphery nation-states. When a significant civilisational state is astray, it impacts its neighbourhood and stability, threatening regional security," writes Abeyagoonasekera.

Asanga Abeyagoonasekera is an International Security and Geopolitics Analyst and Strategic Advisor from Sri Lanka. He is a Senior Fellow and Executive Director of the South Asia Foresight Network (SAFN) at the Millennium Project in Washington, DC. He is the author of the recent book Teardrop Diplomacy: China’s Sri Lanka Foray (2023) published by Bloomsbury.
