About This Author
Gillian Hurtt is the GlobalNET Content Manager at the NESA Center. She is responsible for developing and supporting virtual educational goals, recommending design and communication trends to implement into the school’s learning environment, and assisting faculty and staff with developing and implementing course content. Prior to joining the NESA Center, Ms. Hurtt spent over 5 years in the local television news industry as a newscast Producer and Director. These roles allowed her to develop and hone her technical and communication skills, which are of paramount importance in her current position at the NESA Center. Ms. Hurtt graduated from Virginia Tech in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication/Multimedia Journalism and a minor in Business Leadership.

On 29 April 2024, NESA Center Distinguished Professor Dr. Hassan Abbas was elected as a trustee of the American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Established in 1973, the AIPS is a bi-national research and education organization with a mission to promote the academic study of Pakistan in the U.S. and to encourage scholarly exchange between the U.S. and Pakistan. Dr. Shanthie Mariet D'Souza is the Fulbright-Nehru Visiting Chair in Public Policy at the University of Massachusetts Amherst; Founder and president of Mantraya Institute for Strategic Studies (MISS); Visiting faculty at the Naval War College, Goa; a non-resident scholar at the Middle East Institute, Washington D.C.; Research Fellow at WeltTrends-Institut für Internationale Politik, Potsdam; Member, Board of Studies, School of International & Area Studies, Goa University. In a career spanning over two decades, she has conducted extensive field research in India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, China, Africa, and Australia.
