This recommendation designed to facilitate NATO membership and the opening of EU membership negotiations is included in the policy recommendations resulting from a September 2018 RSSEE SG Workshop; ”Greece and Its Western Balkan Neighbours – Common Challenges in a Changing Europe”.

The Regional Stability in South East Europe Study Group (RSSEE SG) recommended supporting Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia’s efforts to find a political compromise with Greece in order to facilitate NATO membership and the opening of EU membership negotiations as soon as possible. In addition, the group calls for the establishment of a certification agency to make regional export firms more competitive. Other recommendations addressed; 1. Repealing conflicting and outdating legislation, 2. Enhancing net migration, 3. Establishing a joint investment support agency to facilitate foreign direct investment in the South East European region and 4. Enhancing cooperation in the field of energy relations.
