The Partnership for Peace Consortium (PfPC) is an international security cooperation organization of over 800 defense academies and security studies institutes across 60 countries.  Founded in 1999 during the NATO Summit, the PfPC was chartered to promote defense education and defense institution building and foster regional stability, which the PfPC accomplishes via its international network of defense education and defense institution building experts.

The PfPC is governed by a Senior Advisory Council (SAC) consisting of representatives from: (1) Austria, (2) Canada, (3) Germany, (4) NATO, (5) Poland, (6) Sweden, (7) Switzerland and (8) the United States.

A series of study/working groups provide the PfPC’s international security cooperation framework, addressing relevant international security topics focused on defense education and defense institution building:

• Advanced Distributed Learning
• Combating Terrorism
• Conflict Studies
• Defense Education Development
• Emerging Security Challenges
• Regional Stability in the South Caucasus
• Regional Stability in Southeast Europe
• Security Sector Reform

Over 60 PfPC events per year across the US, Europe and Central Asia provide the groups with a forum for debate and exchange of ideas on contemporary international security topics.  Such forums are designed to identify and facilitate options for nonviolent resolution to international differences, and to further defense education transformation and defense institution building goals in recipient countries.  The groups benefit from a multinational, multidisciplinary network of experts across defense, academia, industry, and civil society.

PfPC Services

Supported by the research and activities of the study/working groups, the PfPC offers the following international security, defense education, and defense institution building services:

• Defense education curriculum and faculty development
• Education delivery methods (e.g. distributed computer-based learning)
• Foreign policy recommendation papers
• Information sharing, coordination of skills and assets

The PfPC also publishes a scholarly, quarterly journal Connections, in English and Russian - both hard copy and online – which in concert with the study/working groups focuses on international security topics.

A multinational staff at the George C.
